Who are we? – A dedicated team
At Plastic Oceanic we try to all be involved in all areas of the company but below are our core team. As we grow so will our team, so keep an eye out for new additions.
Dan Has been a surfer and diver for many years and decided to start Plastic Oceanic as a way to try and help with the problem of ocean plastic pollution.
He has worked as a deep sea diver and originally studied for a B.Sc. in marine biology and coastal ecology at the University of Plymouth.
For the last 10 years He has been running a small welding and engineering business and a construction business specialising in traditional construction both based In Penryn, Cornwall.
Kirstie (no relation of Dan) joined the team in the winter of 2019. The business needed new energy to drive it forward and her experience running environmental campaigns locally, whilst managing a large team of people was invaluable. It also helped that she was an experienced writer, public speaker, and paddleboarder, as well as an outstanding organiser and communicator.
Dan and Kirstie met cleaning beaches and have spoken together at science and community events. Since then, along with 3 other local legends, they have set up a community interest company (a small not for profit local charity) to fund the voluntary work they do in the wider community, all before Kirstie joined team Plastic Oceanic. They’ve achieved things such as installing open source water points for the public, recycling bins, reusuable cup schemes for events and purchased publicly owned litter pick equipment to name but a few, all with plastic free falmouth one of the groups Kirstie manages.
Kirstie has received a community hero award for her efforts to protect the local environment.
Sam has been a surfer and ocean user for 20+ years. He has spent many years running a courier company and is well placed to help with logistics.
He also ran Surf House Sri Lanka, a surfers’ hostel in Sri Lanka, for several years.
